Day Habilitation
The Skills Unlimited Day Habilitation program is sponsored through the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD). This specialized training program is a unique and highly individualized method of providing life skills to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Our Day Habilitation clients work closely with a Skills Unlimited case manager to define their personal training needs and desires that will enhance their individual level of independence. This may include learning the skills necessary to buy food at a grocery store. It may also entail the desire of a client to join a health club or learn how to wash their clothes at a laundromat.
The consumer chooses training services like these from a very extensive skills training list. He or she will then discuss these training needs with one of our case managers who will then create a very definitive course of action in the form of an Individualized Service Plan (ISP). The ISP acts as a road map to success. As the client progresses through the learning process the plan is adjusted as necessary to incorporate nuances and to document the client's day habilitation progress.
Active involvement and immersion in community activities is central to this program. All activities are age appropriate, meaningful, and based on the clients capacity to engage in them. The Skills Unlimited Day Habilitation program focuses on enabling each individual to attain his of her maximum functioning level.
