Supported Employment
Skills Unlimited offers a wide variety of employment related support free of charge to consumers seeking placement at a community based employment site. The process flows as follows: referral from New York State Education Department, intake, resume preparation, development of interview skills, placement, on-site training, performance feedback from employer and finally transition to extended support service.
Extended service consists of frequent on site visits to maintain a high level of performance and enhance employment retention skills. The Skills Unlimited staff constantly elicits supervisory feedback and develops strategies to maximize productivity and maintain employer and employee satisfaction. Site visits are scheduled at least two times per month and can be provided indefinitely.
Stony Brook Project
Skills Unlimited offers a program at Stony Brook University and Hospital to facilitate employment and evaluate potential for enrollment in various medical training programs.
Consumers have the opportunity for a hands on experience prior to committing to long and or expensive training periods. In addition, some consumers can participate in a work adjustment program to develop a network while seeking employment.
